Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure said the incident left him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
