The buzz around The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
