Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

The win also signifies Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
