Each time a prominent honors show draws close, there’s always a clamor to include additional classifications to honor unsung work and delight the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.
My colleague made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.
Existing Game Classification System
Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, allowing placement for numerous titles.
Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything that year
- A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
- Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're small games, however the design of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for many years.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, while interacting across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
